「真善美」電影版於1965年首映轟動全世界，創60年代最賣座影片。
經典電影『真善美(The Sound of Music)』改編自故事女主角瑪麗亞1949年的真人真事傳記「The Story of The Trapp Family Singers」。敘述The Trapp Family Singers(達菩之家合唱團)在美成名的經過。

《真善美》來自瑪莉亞馮崔普的自傳「崔普家庭歌手」，原為實習修女的她用音樂感化了七個古靈精怪的小孩，也找到自己所要的人生，與鰥居的男主人共結連理。這個真實故事很早被拍成電影，並在1959年搬上舞臺，卻都比不上這部歌舞片所引發的熱潮。茱莉安德魯絲黃鶯出谷的歌喉與精湛的演技，完全體現角色善良、活潑、深具魅力的特質，她跟七個突出的童星水乳交融的和諧演出，亦教人難以挑剔。完美的組合，加上勞勃懷斯壯麗的取景與排場，也讓本片成為影史首部賣座超越《亂世佳人》的電影，可見受歡迎的程度。
而多首膾炙人口的名曲，更是《真善美》歷久不衰的主因，朗朗上口的「Do-Re-Mi」、優美抒情的「小白花」、輕快俏皮的「寂寞的牧童」，以及大女孩和傳令兵對唱的「十六快十七」，都是箇中代表。《真善美》原聲帶當年雄踞排行榜長達233周，與電影票房相互輝映。從2005年起，全場一起歡唱的《真善美》也成為Hollywood Bowl固定秒殺的重頭戲。
The Sound of Music, directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, is based on the Broadway musical adapted from the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp. It contains many popular songs, including “Edelweiss", “Do-Re-Mi", “Sixteen Going on Seventeen", and “The Lonely Goatherd. The movie won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, and surpassed Gone with the Wind as the highest-grossing film of all-time.
